A team of over 30 volunteers and staff from Big Brothers Big Sisters took to the city streets on Sunday 29th June 2009 to raise money at the annual ‘Run Melbourne’ - event. With 'Bigs 4 Littles' team members running in a variety of events - ranging from the half marathon to the 5km walk - they were able to raise over $7,000 for the organisation. Bec Wolstenholme and Nett Bailey, from the Outer South East Melbourne Big Brothers Big Sisters, decided to forgo the 'traditional' running gear and try for the $1000 prize (given to your charity of choice) if you wore the 'wackiest costume'. Although, they didn't win, they had a heap of fun trying! Volunteers and staff are already talking about 'doing it again' next year, with plans for bigger and better! Each year, Run Melbourne allows you to nominate a charity for which to raise money. "We are hoping that more people will choose Big Brothers Big Sisters as their charity of choice next year. What a great way to get fit, but support young people in your local community at the same time!" says team leader Rebecca Wolstenholme. If people are interested in knowing more, or would like to join the Big Brothers Big Sisters team for the 2010 run, they can contact the staff through this website. |

Not Just 'Brothers' Anymore! |

Adam and Kayne are one of those matches that just connected from day one and never looked back. After a successful year of being part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Adam decided he wanted to take the commitment 'one step further'! Adam and his wife, Joy, made history with Big Brothers Big Sisters, when they applied in December 2007 to become approved caregivers and 'adopted' Kayne into their family. Kayne, who has been involved with the Department of Human Services for many years, now has a new family and a new Dad! Kayne (centre) with his new family |
